So many times you hear of people going for their daily work-outs and suddenly experience the ipod nano white screen of death.

The cause of this is water damage.

What I mean by water damage is sweat, which enters the nano threw either the bottom or top depending on where it was placed or clipped at.

Unfortunately, if you are not careful this could and will happen to you, if it hasn't already.

How to fix the white screen of death

To fix the white screen of death for your ipod nano do the following:

  • hold the home button
  • hold down the volume + button as well
  • finally hold down the power off button until you see the apple emblem appear on the screen
  • let go of all 3 buttons

What was Apple thinking, o wait I don't think they were

You would think Apple would have thought of this, especially since they gear the ipod nano 6th generation towards the active listener.

I swear they must think us techie active individuals don' sweat or something....it is a shame because it is very convenient with the clip and all.

So what are we suppose to do?

Obviously you can't clip it on your shorts, heaven forbid you attach it to your waist-band, terrible things would occur if it were to be clipped on your sleeve. You are asking for the ipod nano white screen of death for any of the following.

So what would you have to do in order to prevent any sort of sweat/water damage?

Needless to say this device wasn't all that cheap, let alone the hassle of having to bring it back. Now try explaining to Apple what happened and having to deal with them thinking you are trying to pull a fast one.

Like you have nothing else better to do then ruin products and return them for new ones.

But hey.......you never-know there are some pretty crazy people out there with nothing else better to do.

This unfortunately makes it harder on the rest of us sane people. I highly recommend using a sports jacket or water-proof armband to prevent the ipod nano white screen of death.

This only helps to prevent any sort of mishaps but does not provide or gave any sort of explanation when the "white screen of death" occurs. That would have been helpful.

Furthermore, I am disappointed in apple, very very disappointed. The article was right, although sarcastic, like there is nothing better for us sane people to do but to bring it back to the store and go through the hassle of replacing it.

All I know that it is going to be a pain to replace it.

Thanks for voicing your opinion. There really isn't any type of explanation about the white screen. If you experience your iPod nano 6th generation turn white then obviously it have been caused from water/sweat damage.

This happened to me last night.My Ipod was showing a blank white screen (I could kind of see the actual screen in the backgroun). I figured there was moisture between the glass and the actual screen so I put my ipod nano in a bowl and covered it with rice. I left it over night and in the morning the screen was back to normal.

I just want to write this for anyone who is currently panicking about their ipod/phone, that has been dropped in a glass of water.....although it sounds silly....RICE is the answer.

I dropped my friends ipod in a full pint of water for literally a second, panicked like hell as the last thing she said to me was 'dont break it'. Luckily google told me to put it in a pot of dry rice which soaks up the moisture. (I did spend 15 minutes blowing it with a hair dryer, whilst googling a solution)

Listen to what they say, DO NOT PLUG IT IN OR TURN IT ON.... i just left mine for 5 days in a pot of rice in the airing cuboard. just leave it alone, playing with it will make it worse. All the moisture behind the screen has now disapeared and all is working well. Well at the moment anyway. Just react a quick as you can and you might be able to save it. I wouldnt bother taking it apart as that could cause further problems.

And i want to say a big thankyou to everyone else who has reccomended this solution.

i have the same problem after my iPod fall in water

tried many solution but nothing work

my friend told me maybe its a "carbonic" problem after drying all water

so i filled up the iPod (nano 6th gen) with tuner cleaner 600 then the iPod work immediately

If you read the reviews of the 'protective' products above, you will see the repeated complaint that the ipod is protected but also inaccessible during workout. So if the darn thing suddenly stops (mine does all the time) you have to take it out of its protective case. CAREFUL!. Stop working out, dry yourself off completely. (this includes your dripping hair). HOlding device at arms length, very very carefully reboot.

Are you kidding me? The old nano's were hardy little gadgets, this new one is an epic FAIL.
